2010 BRABUS Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

With the new 2010 Mercedes E-Class Coupe officially on sale (in select markets, anyway), it's only fitting that we turn our attention to tuning programs for the new model. Always ahead of the pack with their tuning prowess, the first such program comes from BRABUS, with the company offering substantial styling and performance upgrades for the new E Coupe.

2010 BRABUS Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe-12010 BRABUS Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe-2Outside, changes range from a new BRABUS front spoiler, front quarter panels, rocker panels and a rear apron to new BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels in your choice of 17, 18, 19 or 20 inches. Complimenting its sportier appearance, BRABUS boosted the E500 (and E550) Coupe's displacement to 6.1-Liters, resulting in a total output of 462 hp (456 bhp) / 340 kW and a peak torque of 615 Nm (453 lb-ft) at just 3,100 rpm. As a result, the tuned E500 Coupe can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 196 mph.

To ensure your performance-oriented E-Class Coupe stays planted firmly on the road, BRABUS has also added a height-adjustable coil-over sport suspension along with a high performance brake system – one that features six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 360 mm (14.2 inches) vented and cross-drilled discs on the front axle (four-piston aluminum fixed calipers are fitted on the rear).

As is the case with all the BRABUS Mercedes tuning programs, there are a host of options which can be customized based on your specific requirements, including performance enhancements for different engine variants, interior enhancements, etc. As for the specific engine tuning program noted above for the E500 Coupe (E550 Coupe in the U.S.), it'll set you back EUR 29,000.

2010 Lexus LF-A For Tokyo Motor Show Debut

Since pretty much everyone is ditching the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, rumor has it Toyota will finally unveil the production 2010 Lexus LF-A, a laughably expensive, V10-powered supercar with only 500 copies available.

2010 Lexus LF-A-12010 Lexus LF-A-2If the rumor-mill is on its "A" game, Toyota will finally be trotting out the production version of its Formula 1 inspired super-mega-awesome-car from the land of the rising sun at their Tokyo show stand. The production will be as scarce as the unicorn farts used to carbonize the surface of the cams (the equivalent of 500 copies). It'll reportedly get two models, the pedestrian GT550 and the more raucous SS550, which will inevitably cause consternation amongst the l33t speakers in the supercar market.

That banshee of a V10 under the hood should be good for engineering pr0n and produce somewhere around 500 HP, which, seems a bit weak for the expected $310,000 asking price. Since we're pretty sure conspicuous consumption is still the "in" thing among the legally wealthy, we're expecting the super expensive, obnoxiously styled, limited run automobile will find plenty of fine homes in fortified compounds across the world.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400

(from Mitsubishi Press Release) The tenth version of Mitsubishi’s iconic Lancer Evolution models has a new performance flagship model to top its range, the FQ-400.

Extreme Evolution
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 is the fastest and most extreme version of Mitsubishi’s motorsport derived machine. With 403bhp and 387lb.ft of torque on offer from its advanced, lightweight aluminium 2.0-litre turbocharged MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) petrol engine the FQ-400 is able to reach 62mph from standstill in an estimated 3.8 seconds before reaching an electronically limited 155mph – where permitted.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400Traction and handling
Ensuring all the FQ-400’s power is put to good use is Mitsubishi’s sophisticated Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) four-wheel-drive system which appropriates power to the wheels that can best use it, giving the FQ-400 quite sensational cross-country performance.

Extreme Power
To achieve the incredible 403bhp from just 2.0-litres Mitsubishi has had to significantly revise the FQ-400’s advanced powerplant. Motorsport specification high-flow fuel injectors are fitted to the aluminium cylinder head and a new hybrid turbocharger is also fitted. The higher specification turbocharger features low-friction bearings, a high temperature turbine and strengthened thrust bearing to increase response and reduce turbo lag. Feeding the turbocharger cooled air, improving its performance and efficiency, is an enhanced intercooler, while the exhaust’s gasses flow from the engine via a 3-inch diameter high flow stainless steel piping and catalytic convertor before exiting through a centrally positioned exhaust.

Mitsubishi has remapped the Engine Control Unit (ECU) extensively with over 500 hours of development time to allow its 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to not just produce its exceptional output but to do so with excellent driveability. The FQ-400’s acceleration is sensational, it pulling hard through the gears regardless of engine revs. With peak torque of 387lb.ft on offer from just 3,500rpm, the FQ-400 is just as able to trickle through town traffic as it is taking a rally special stage.

BMW X5 on the beach – video

Just because a vehicle has a high riding stance and all-wheel drive, that doesn't qualify it as an off-roader. That's why when BMW introduced the X5 it was labeled as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" not an SUV. BMW designed the X5 knowing full well that the majority of largely suburban SUV buyers never even think about going off-road. Unfortunately, it appears that one driver, who evidently rented this X5 in Istanbul, never got that message. The purely on-road high performance tires \didn't clue him in that driving to the beach should not include driving past the beach and directly into the water. Prompted by his female companion, the driver went a bit too far. The results were easily predicable and the video after the jump shows clearly why the X5 (and most of its ilk) belong on-road only.

2009 Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS

(from Savage Press Release) The Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS is the only 4 door "topless on demand" supercar in the world.

The experience of driving with the wind rushing over, the engine roaring and the glass top, dropping within 20 seconds.

2009 Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTSWith its yacht-inspired interior wrapped around the brutal V8 pulling you from 0-300 kph (0-186 mph) in less than 35 seconds.

The Savage is a celebration to design. The design is derived from driving a car as an emotional sensation.

It includes the signatures of two revolutionaries. A conflicting and revolutionary balanced design emphasizes the "bad boy" character.

The aggressive cut front shows its primeval powers. The wide muscular rear end shows inviolable trust and leaves everyone behind.

A very high standard of finishing with exaggerated details shows its a true superlative.

2009 MTM Bentley Continental GT Birkin Edition

(from MTM Press Release) MTM's Birkin Edition upgrades performance of Bentley standard model

– 650 Hp and 795 Nm with the Birkin Edition kit for the Continental GT, GTC, Flying Spur, GT Speed, GTC Speed and Continental Supersports
– Unbeatable: the 331 km/h world record with MTM's Bentley Continental GT still stands after three years.
– Exclusive 21-inch "bimoto" alloy rims.

2009 MTM Bentley Continental GT Birkin EditionEven though Bentley offers greater power and performance in the new Speed version standard models, the special series offer 650 Hp performance in addition to an exclusive sporty look. After nearly three years, the 331 km/h world record still stands – achieved by a sportscar with the MTM Bentley Continental GT. With MTM's Birkin Edition kit, the Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur series can be upgraded with an exclusive and sporty look, fully in line with the legendary Bentley Boys, who exerted such an influence on the racing scene around 75 years ago.

The modified performance data with which MTM has revived the Bentley cannot be documented in purely technical terms, but performance is also proved on the track in the true sense of the word "experience". The MTM Bentley took three seconds off the standard counterpart on the short Hockenheim circuit, and also three seconds in the 0 to 200 km/h sprint, which the MTM Bolide achieved in 15.9 seconds. No wonder: With his great love for detail and technical efficiency, the developer Roland Mayer pushed the crucial 90 more Hp out of the 12-cylinder standard engine at Wettstetten near Ingolstadt. 650 Hp is the result, and the in-house performance tests recorded 795 Nm, supported by a perfectly coordinated exhaust system with muffler and throttle control which, in addition to the increased performance, delivers a beguiling sound.

As far as the optics and external appearance are concerned, MTM has made no obvious changes to the bodywork. The four-pipe exhaust system with MTM's F-Cantronic gives the tail its visual effect: approximately 30 mm lower than in the standard series. The small intelligent electronic control unit lowers the 2.4-tonner by 35 mm at the rear axle and by around 25 mm at the front axle. Combined with 21-inch alloy rims, the timeless Bimoto design lends an exclusive, sportier look to the Bentley, which not only offers more dynamics to buyers of new vehicles, but will also appeal to those who already drive a Bentley.

EUR 20,000 incl. VAT. MTM throws in the VAT, TЬV certification and assembly in the Birkin edition kit. Those who are still not satisfied can fall back on the MTM Individual program which, as the name implies, customises according to the buyer's wishes.
