1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is an extremely rare and cool road car built by Alfa Romeo. Only 18 are reported to have been made, plus three design studies based on the 33 Stradale the 33.2, Iguana and Carabo.

The Stradale, first built in 1967, was based on the Autodelta Alfa Romeo T33 racing car. The car, designed by Franco Scaglione, and built by Carrozzeria Marazzi, made its debut at the 1967 Turin Motorshow.

Built in an attempt by Alfa to make some of its racing technology available to the public, it was the most expensive automobile for sale to the public in 1968 at US$17,000 (when the average cost of a new car in 1968 was $2,822).

The Stradale is believed to be the first production vehicle to feature dihedral doors, also known as butterfly doors. The Stradale also features windows which seamlessly curve upward into the 'roof' of the vehicle.

The race-bred engine bore no relation to the mass-produced units in Alfa's more mainstream vehicles. Race engineer Carlo Chiti designed an oversquare (78 mm bore x 52,2 mm stroke) dry-sump lubricated 1,995 cc (121.7 cu in) V8 that featured SPICA fuel injection, four ignition coils and 16 spark plugs. The engine used four chain-driven camshafts to operate the valve train and had a rev-limit of 10000 rpm. The engine produced 230 bhp (172 kW) at 8800 rpm in road trim and 270 bhp (200 kW) in race trim.

In another break from convention, Alfa used a six-speed transaxle gearbox by Valerio Colotti. The car takes 5.5 seconds to reach 60 mph (96.56 km/h) from a standing start and has top speed of 260 km/h (160 mph

Alfa Romeo MiTo Novitec tuning

While waiting for the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA, whose presentation ocurred at the Geneva motor show, Novitec has revealed its interpretation of the MiTo. The tuning company from the Netherlands has worked on the MiTo engines, using the 1.4 litre petrol turbo at 155 hp, and the JTDm 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre at 90 and 120 hp respectively.

Both the JTDm engines have had a power step of 20 hp and a new bodykit that lowers suspension by 40 mm. Further inclusions are an aerodynamic pack, a new exhaust and 18-inch alloy wheels with Pirelli tyres.

Alfa Romeo Milano GTA renderings

Here’s a quick recipe for a rendering of the Alfa Romeo Milano GTA: start with the spy shots, take a few hints from the teaser image, and then photoshop what was learned over the MiTo GTA photos. While this formula would normally not earn a spot on our page, the result from an Alfa Blog submitter was done strikingly well.

Alfa Romeo Milano GTAAs Alfa Romeo changes the remaining number cars to names, the Milano will be the replacement for the 147. This will be an entry into the luxury small car market, so the Milano’s name competition will be models like the Audi A3 range. We expect the engine lineup to include four and six cylinder engines starting at 120 hp and topping out with the GTA at about 265 hp.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA - official video

The four cylinder turbo under the bonnet of the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA certainly makes itself heard. We don’t get to hear it long, but we hear it. Whether you like the MiTo GTA or not, the engine has a reassuring low rumble to it that proves that this is not a tinny little car. This official video is a little too long once we get into the rather boring sound track, but stick with it because a look at the Giulia Sprint is worth it. The video shows that the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA, prepared by Biscione in Milan, could prove itself worthy of the Gran Turismo Alleggerita title.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept spied

Carscoop has snapped the Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept in video filming on the streets of Valencia, leading us to wonder if it isn’t time to drop the word “concept” from its name. The little Alfa Romeo might be small, but it should have plenty of performance and a provocative look to make up for its size.

Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept -1Alfa Romeo MiTo GTA Concept -2While the contrasting roof, rear extractor and the bronzed headlights might be too much, when it comes into production we could see a sweetened version of this car. Until then, we’ll have to make do with these MiTo spy shots.

2009 Alfa Romeo 159

If anything comes out of the Chrysler/Fiat partnership (and we doubt anything will) we’re desperately looking forward to a range of Alfa Romeo products in the States. Right behind the Brera on our imaginary wish-list is this: the 2009 Alfa Romeo 159.

2009 Alfa Romeo 159Due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the updated 159 boasts two new engines – a 200 hp, 1.8-liter TBi (turbocharged and direct-injected) four-cylinder and a 170 hp, 1.8-liter JTDm diesel – with the gas-powered variant equipped with a “Q2″ electronic differential and a choice of either a six-speed manual or auto ‘box. Unfortunately, these leaked images and minor details are all we have, so expect all the info to follow in the first week of March.

2009 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

Turns out the Alfa Romeo 8C - or the U.S. verson of it, at least - isn't perfect after all. Due to an incorrect torque setting on the front and rear suspension upper and lower ball joint nuts, Maserati is recalling 7,912 vehicles in the U.S. They include the 8Cs that have made it over here (thought to number 88), as well as GranTurismos and Quattroportes from the 2008 model year.

2009 Alfa Romeo 8C -22009 Alfa Romeo 8C -1If unchecked, the ball joint nuts will come loose, and that will cause problems ranging from steering wheel vibration to separation of the steering arm. That, unsurprisingly, "could result in a loss of steering capability," which usually leads to a crash.

2009 Alfa Romeo 149 spied

The new-generation Alfa Romeo 149 has been spied prowling the streets of Italy, and is due to arrive in showrooms overseas in the next few months. The successor to the current 147 will go head to head with its main rival, the Volkswagen Golf, boasting the usual level of Alfa Romeo flair and style.

2009 Alfa Romeo 149-12009 Alfa Romeo 149-2These latest spy shots reveal a face similar to the recently revealed MiTo small hatch and 8C sports coupe, bringing the 149 in line with the new style direction of the brand. At 4.30metres long, it comes very close to the former Alfa 156 in size, but is actually based on the platform of the current Fiat Bravo.

The new 149 will be available in five-door guise only, using a series of turbocharged petrol engines ranging between 89kW and 198kW with a V6-powered GTA flagship model. Like the Junior, the new 149 will receive a six-speed manual gearbox with an automatic being available as an option for some engines.
