2011 Nissan March

Nissan has introduced the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) edition of the all-new March supermini, which went on sale this week.

Unlike its ancestors, the fourth-generation March is produced in Thailand, to lower manufacturing costs. Although, Nissan has set up a unique inspection process at its Oppama plant in Japan – that produced the previous generation model – to make additional quality checks on the Thai-made variant.

The Micra/March will be manufactured in India, China and Mexico, where manufacturing costs are low. Nissan has plans to sell the new supermini in more than 160 countries around the world including Australia, U.S, Turkey and Russia.

The Japanese March is presented with a 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, while plusher trim-levels receive a stop/start system that can achieve around 61mpg on the Japanese urban cycle. Features like leather steering wheel, 4WD, x4 electric windows, keyless entry, front fog lamps, satellite navigation system and electrically adjustable/heated/folding door mirrors will be standard.

Amid the assorted grades and trim levels offered in Japan is the Bolero model. Bolero sticks out thanks to its Bentley-esque front grille and revised front bumper. The March is priced between ¥999,600 - ¥1.64 million, with Nissan looking to sell approximately 48,000 units per annum in Japan.

Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Cars 2010

The new 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 delivers the most power and refinement ever for a Ford SVT-tuned performance Mustang – and a few surprises, too.

“We’re proud of the many enhancements that were developed jointly by the Ford and Shelby Automobiles team last year that we’ve now incorporated into the new 2010 Shelby GT500,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Building on what we learned to create the Shelby GT500KR, this new car offers a great combination of power, handling and braking. It is truly a special car that is a great deal of fun to drive.”

Mazda3 Hatchback Cars 2010

Mazda has officially taken the wraps off its five-door hatchback version of the redesigned Mazda3 at the Bologna Motor Show today. As you can see in the gallery of new high-res pics below, the Mazda3 five-door gets the same swoopy sheetmetal as its four-door brethren, including the super happy smiley front end face. What's new is an extended roofline that drops down at a steep angle to create a wagon-esque profile. With a D-pillar that kinks up at a swept back angle, the look is very similar to that of a Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix that's been stepped on by a giant. The new cargo capacity will no doubt be appreciated by families who can put every extra cubic foot to good use, and if the current generation Mazda3 is any indication, this will also be the basis for the Mazdaspeed model.

At the moment, all the specs for the new Mazda3 five-door hatchback are for the European market, so don't expect its new 2.2L and carryover 1.6L turbo diesel engines to be available in the U.S. Europeans will also have a choice of 1.6L and 2.0L gas engines, though we expect the U.S.-spec model to offer the same 2.0L and new 2.5L four-cylinder engines as the sedan. Check out the official press release from Mazda after the jump for more details and the high-res image gallery below for more shots of the new Mazda3 five-door hatchback

Citroen Metropolis and Survolt due for production

Citroen is working hard on bring two of its most recent concept cars into production: the Metropolis premium saloon and the Survolt electric sports car.

Citroen’s effort at breaking into the European executive saloon market with the current C6 failed but Ploué said that Citroën must carry on and the Metropolis is the model that could do that. The Metropolis would take its place as Citroens flagship saloon and may be badged ‘DS9’.

“We cannot afford to let the likes of Audi, Mercedes and BMW forge into Citroën’s heartland supermini territory without fighting back and pushing into theirs. Selling large luxury cars in Europe is not easy at the moment, but I believe Citroën has a great deal more to bring to the market. A large, characterful DS flagship model — we could call it a DS9 to reference the original DS19 — could do great things for us”, Polué said.

In addition, Polué suggested that developing such a car for the Chinese market – which would measure over 5.4m – and badging it as a Citroën, would be a positive financially.

“It’s still our intention to put the Survolt into low-volume production, and we’re pursuing the idea of a one-make race series,” well-placed insiders confirmed.
