BMW 116d with 64mpg

BMW will launch their most fuel efficient and cleanest car ever later this year. The new BMW 116d gets a remarkable 64.2mpg, with CO2 emissions at just 118 grams per kilometer.

BMW 116dUsing the same, albeit detuned, diesel four-banger as the 118d and 120d, the new car will be pushed around with 116hp. The engine also produces 192 ft-lb of torque at 1,750 rpm, giving the three-door a 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds. As a five-door the car reaches 62mph a tenth-of-a-second slower. Top speed for both is 125mph.

Its Band B rating, a ranking based on emissions testing, which means the car will cost its new owner only £35 per year in taxes.

The new BMW 116d three-door starts at £17,605, including taxes and license fees. BMW's five-door version starts at £18,135. Sales for the clean duo begins in March 2009.
