This explains why the German model features in the portfolio of so many car tuners. Unfortunately, the big sales volume made the aftermarket industry follow in the foot steps of the stock car manufacturers. And this is because they started producing the so called exclusive, unique body kits in large series. For all these reasons, MAFF Tuning developed the Muron project such as to offer the alternative of a truly custom interpretation of the super SUV. Thus, the Muron package represents a complex stylistic approach, which makes it more than sufficient for seriously amplifying the already powerful personality of the Cayenne.

The Muron body kit is built of carbon fiber. The package comprises of the following: front and rear spoilers, front grille with integrated LED daytime running lights, side skirts, roof spoiler, bonnet with dramatic scoops, masks for the head lights and tail lights, a discreet adornment for the boot lid, inserts of carbon fiber for the door handles, rear view mirror carcases with integrated LED signal lights and exhaust tailpipes covers. Each of these elements are a MAFF design and this is why the cars are adorned with the MAFF and Muron logos. Even the light alloy wheels are a special MAFF design. And their dimensions vary according to the request of each and every client.

For the interior of the car one can configure a virtualy unlimited number of layouts. This is possible due to the liberty MAFF gives to its clients regarding the choice of color, combination of materials, stitching design, embroiderments and inserts (carbon fiber among others). Only the finest leather types, like Alcantara, are used to tailor the cockpit. Even exotic alternatives like leather with a surface that imitates the carbon fiber texture have been selected by our customers. And the design, as well as the entire tailoring process are the work of the specialized department of the MAFF workshop.

The MAFF portfolio includes some unique models able to develop over 700 HP. This is why MAFF engineers also adjust the suspension of the car, aiming to improve its dynamic behavior. The ride height is consequently reduced by up to 8 cm. This is done by tuning the electronic management of the stock suspensions.

Audi Q5 Custom Concept images

Audi has released new official pics of the Q5 Custom Concept prior to the prototype’s presentation at the Worthersee Tour 2009 next weekend. The prototype is not so interesting for its look, but for the engine that they’ve put under the bonnet.

Audi Q5 Custom Concept-1Audi Q5 Custom Concept-2Currently absent from the Q5 range, the V6 3.0 litre TFSI is that of the Audi S4, brought from 333 to 408 hp for the occasion. This power will be managed by the S-Tronic seven-speed transmission, and the whole proposal has fans a-flutter.

The model proves that the possibility of an “S” version in the Audi SUV range is not so fantastical. This could also be a preview to the next RS4, currently oscillating between a V6 and V8. And given the closer relationships among the VAG cars, we could even see this engine on Volkswagen or Porsche models.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Body Kit Unveiled By MEC Design

Going through our inbox this beautiful Wednesday morning, the fine gentlemen at MEC Design sent us details of a new body kit they've created for the Mercedes S-Class. Up front, you'll notice a new front apron is in place which features your choice of either fog lights and driving lights or a mesh insert, while in the back, a new rear diffuser and one piece rear spoiler are both present.

Completing the package, bi-colored MECXTREMEIII 22-inch wheels are fitted to the MEC S-Class, which feature a stainless steel outer rim with a forged center piece.

Next Gen VW Touran MPV Mule – spied pics

The next Volkswagen Touran has been spied testing on the streets with a trailer in tow. Though the mule uses the current Touran facelift for its body, underneath there lies the next-generation model. The Touran will take on the brand's new face which can already be seen on the Scirocco, the Golf VI and the new Polo. VW's versatile vehicle has been in the market since 2003 and it received a facelift in 2007.

Engines expected include the 1.4-litre TSI and the 1.6-litre. Turbo diesels are also popular in this segment so the 1.9 TDI as well as the 2.0 TDI will form the lineup. Mated to these engines are two gearboxes, the familiar 6-speed manual and the new 7-speed DSG.

Gadgets on the menu would be things like the self-park function, touch screen satellite navigation and lane assist.

It would not be a surprise to see the Touran at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

2010 Audi A3 TDI, diesel with a healthy dash of sport

Audi started its big push for clean diesel here in the U.S. market this spring when its big Q7 TDI finally went on sale. While the Q7 TDI is one of the most fuel efficient seven-passenger SUVs available anywhere, it's only the beginning for Audi. Assuming that Americans start taking a shine to hot oil, Audi is likely to introduce a whole series of Rudi D's disciples here. So far, however, only one has been announced in addition to the Q7, the compact A3 hatchback.

2010 Audi A3 TD-12010 Audi A3 TD-22010 Audi A3 is the entry-level model for the four-ringed brand here in the U.S. Until now, it has only been sold with a choice of a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder or 3.2-liter V6 engines running on gasoline. While the A3 TDI isn't yet available, one was made available to us for five days during a recent trip to Southern California.

BMW M3 Darth Maul Project

Canadian tuner MWDesign have begun a tuning programme for the BMW M3 Coupe (E92) which they have codenamed Darth Maul, presumably from the Star Wars Episode One baddie. Currently the programme is in stage 1. For now only a few pieces of kit have been installed in Jerez Black, the colour of the exterior. For starters there is an Amuse Ericsson front bumper with custom orange highlights.

A rear diffuser made from carbon fiber rounds off the major exterior changes. The black 20-inch rims with orange-accented centre caps are wrapped in 245/30/20 front tyres and 285/25/20 rubber at the rear. Interior details are rare but we are told that Darth Maul comes with a Fox Red interior trim.

The BMW M3, of any generation, is undoubtedly one of the most tuned sports cars of our time. The current car was launched in 2007 with a 4.0-litre V8 engine replacing the old 3.2-litre straight six. Despite the 800cc gain the new engine is 15kg lighter. Maximum power was increased from 343hp (252kW) to 420hp (309kW). Stay tuned for stage 2 of Darth Maul.

Mercedes GL 350 BlueTEC – video

These video shows some close-ups of the Mercedes GL 350 BlueTEC version. The diesel SUV is the ecological effort for this segment from Mercedes, presented at the New York show in a slight restyling. The BlueTEC version is based on the 320 CDI with the same V6 three-litre engine with 211 hp. The car is equipped with a special filter system, with DeNox system that reduces NOx values by 80 percent, reducing consumption to 9 l/100km.

Ventross tweaks the Nissan GT-R

When the GT-R first found its way into customer hands, Nissan actually included an image in the instruction manual recommending owners not modify their car with oversize spoilers and ridiculous body kits – more for the sake of taste rather than functionality. Naturally this suggestion has been ignored by the aftermarket scene, although for the most part visual tweaks have been rather impressive with the latest kit from Ventross being no exception.

Nissan GT-R-1Nissan GT-R-2Usually specializing in German cars, America tuning firm Vorsteiner has established the Ventross brand specifically for Japanese offerings, following up last year’s Lexus IS-F with the infamous Nissan GT-R. The package comprises a dry carbon front chin spoiler, new front intakes which funnel air onto the brakes as well as adding downforce, a lighter carbon fibre boot lid with spoiler and rear diffuser in the same material.

The new boot lid alone is almost 50 percent lighter than the standard part which it replaces, meaning the Ventross will outperform a factory GT-R with no engine modifications at all.
Also available are three-piece forged aluminium six-spoke wheels in both 19- and 20-inch packages.

Hyundai ix-ionic Concept

Korea’s leading carmaker has shown great concept vehicles over the years, but the Hyundai ix-ionic concept (pronounced ““ik-sonic” and yes, written in lower case letters only) appears to be anything but far-fetched. In fact, it looks everything like the production-ready evolution of the i-mode concept (small letters again) that was unveiled in Geneva only last year.

Designed by Hyundai’s studio in Rüsselsheim, Germany, this stylish compact crossover is 4,400 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and stands 1,650 mm off the ground. All measures within a few whiskers of a BMW X3, a likely target and benchmark. The ix-ionic concept also splits the difference between Hyundai’s current Tucson and Sante Fe models in length and width. It is fashionably lower than the former by 8 cm, which is fine for a vehicle described by its makers as an “Urban Nomad”.

The ix-ionic seats five: save for the snazzy blue rear-lighting in the gauges, navi screen and radio display, as well as some bright magnesium accents, the interior is production grade too. Worthy of notice are speakers mounted much higher than usual in the doors for better sound quality. There’s also a ‘blind spot’ warning light in the rear-view mirror. And under the hood is a 1.6-litre, 168-horsepower, direct-injected four-cylinder gasoline engine with ‘stop-start’ mode, coupled to a dual automated clutch, six-speed gearbox and four-wheel-drive. Look for additional muscle if this one makes the trip over.

MotoCzysz range of electric motorcycles

Assuming testing goes off without too much drama, MotoCzysz plans to enter an electric motorcycle in the upcoming TTXGP zero-emissions time trial at the Isle of Man. Motorcycle Daily got the chance to talk to Michal Czysz about the new development, and a few interesting tidbits were gleaned.

MotoCzysz electric motorcycle,According to Czysz, the E1PC came about after an employee asked for permission to borrow the frame from a Yamaha YZF-R1 to create an electric motorcycle to enter in the TTXGP. Apparently, Czysz thought it would be better to design a new bike from the ground up using an advanced carbon fiber frame that's been designed to accept a modular powertrain. This design will reportedly allow for a range of electric motorcycles all based on the same basic underpinnings.

The entry-level electric MotoCzysz machine would cost under $20,000 and use a relatively small motor and battery pack, allowing for around-town riding with short bursts on the highway. A higher-spec model could go for $50,000 or more and would use a much larger battery pack (Czysz suggests it could be as large as the Chevy Volt's 16 kWh unit) enabling it to hit speeds of 150 miles per hour and have additional range.

Audi R8 in Maranello - Video

The residents of Maranello used to the sight of rakish red two-door sheetmetal roaring under the impulse of several hundred horsepower – and they still do. Except when that metal hides a ten-cylinder engine and wears four rings on its hood. In this Audi R8 commercial depicting an R8 V10 on a slow cruise through Ferrari country, the locals are shown to have a decidedly different reaction upon realizing that the German barbarians are no longer content to hang out at the town gates.

VW Scirocco R20T in Racing Guise at Nurburgring

Spy photographers of the Motortrend just caught Volkswagen's latest hot iteration of the Scirocco roaming the streets surrounding the Nurburgring. We take the sponsor decals to mean that VW is prepping the hot hatch for its reported launch at the ADAC Zurich 24 Hour Race next week.

Otherwise, the R20T visual treatment features a more aggressive front end with larger intakes, a new rear spoiler, and an exhaust tip protruding from each end of the rear bumper. The Audi S3-derived, turbo 2.0L under hood should generate somewhere between 270 hp and 300 hp.

Along with this Scirocco, we also expect VW to unveil the Golf R20 at the 24 hour race. Stay tuned, the festivities begin May 21.

Bentley Supersports Biofuel

Well, whatever they eventually name it, it seems not even ultra-luxury automakers like Bentley are immune to the required eco-sensitivity of our times. And why not? We should all do our part. If Willie Nelson can start a bio-diesel fuel company then, yes, Bentley should have this. At the Geneva auto salon earlier this year Bentley premiered a Continental GT that runs on ethanol and called it the Continental Supersports, for lack of a more appropriate name, apparently.

Bentley Supersports Biofuel -1Bentley Supersports Biofuel -2And the upside is that the E85 version is a better performer, upping the power quotient on the 6.0 liter W12 engine to 630 hp, 20 hp more than the GT Speed and 78 more than the standard Continental GT. 0 to 100 km/h comes in at under 4 seconds (3.9 s). Another marked improvement over the GT and GT Speed, which come in at 4.8 and 4.5 seconds, respectively. There's also a modest jump in top speed - 329 km/h compared to 322 (GT Speed) and 318 km/h (Continental GT).

But the improved performance does not necessarily reflect the power of the E85 (ethanol) fuel. Bentley has put the Continental on a diet to the tune of 110 less kilograms through the use of carbon fiber components. There's also a new Quickshift gearbox that makes changes twice as fast as the previous iteration of the transmission. It also has a wider track at the rear by 50 millimeters.

The spy shots seen here are of the Continental Supersports arriving at the track at Nurburgring for a little exercise. Cosmetic differences to the standard Continental GT are minimal, with a different rear bumper and tailpipes and larger air intakes at the front, which improve cooling to also help increase those performance numbers.

Whoever will be driving this, though, you can bet they won't be whistling On the Road Again. Willie, you interested?

(from Kicherer Press Release) Even after its facelift Mercedes Tuner Kicherer saw sufficient hidden, sports potential in the Mercedes SL 63 AMG which it then brought to the fore in the Kicherer SL 63 RS. Kicherer transforms the Mercedes SL 63 AMG into the SL 63 RS.

So the customer can experience this extra performance Kicherer are simultaneously offering a Vmax-upgrade, which disables the electronic brakes at speeds of 250 km/h. To counter this the ABC-suspension has been electronically adapted to meet the increased demands and equipped with more sporty lines. Kicherer has also improved the brakes.

The Kicherer SL 63 RS is of course allowed to display it potential. And for this the tuner has applied an extensive exterior package of laminated carbon fibre. To visually improve the two-seater a new front spoiler, LED daylight driving lights, headlight blenders, a new front grill, a bumper on the front wings along with special mirror covers and a completely new shaped rear diffuser have been added. This latter also frames a sports exhaust system with four exhaust outlets.

Downforce system is the name given by Kicherer to the boot lid with integrated spoiler that is also made of laminated carbon fibre and which should clearly increase the downwards pressure on the rear axle.The transformation of the Mercedes SL 63 AMG is rounded off with 20 inch large light metal wheels, which at the front have 255/30 tyres and at the rear are fitted with 305/25 tyres.Carbon fibre is also the material from which Kicherer has made the new decorative parts in the interior. The tuner has also added a new sports steering wheel to the package.

1956 Cadillac Firemaker Custom by Pfaff Designs

(from Pfaff Design Press Release) This 1956 Cadillac Sedan de Ville spent its life on the American road, highlighted by long driving vacations to Mexico, Alaska and annual trips to Florida. With over 100,000 miles on the odometer, this icon of '50s luxury was parked in 1971 and was forgotten – until then-high school senior and now current owner Murray Pfaff found it languishing in storage in 1986. Neglected for 25 years and due to lose its place in a barn scheduled to be demolished to make way for a mall, the car caught young Pfaff's fancy. He asked his father for permission to buy it and rescue it from decay, but received a firm, “Over my dead body” in reply. Fortunately for the car and Murray, this Cadillac found safe haven until the purchase could finally be negotiated some 5 years later.

1956 Cadillac-11956 Cadillac-2First up for the behemoth was custom bodywork under the guidance of Matt Shamey of Watertown, NY. This includes over 300 hood louvers, recessed hood ornament, shaved handles, trim, and emblems, custom skirts, frenched antennas, filled bumpers, and a Carson style roof. Then Brother Dave and a collection of friends again stepped in to help get the Caddy road worthy in just under a year motivated by the original 365 cubic-inch V-8. Another 5 years had passed before the transplant of a 1976 Cadillac drive train began in Naples, FL. In order to help fit the 500-c.i.d. power plant under the hood, the firewall was recessed using a Jackson M-5 wheelbarrow. The big inch Cadillac motor benefits from high performance internals a polished Edelbrock intake, Holley Street Avenger carburetor, and plumbing from Earl’s.

From Florida, Pfaff moved to Northern California. There, the car got a complete repaint that Murray had designed himself. The flame job was generated by computer and was one of his earliest design explorations – one that would later lead to the creation of Pfaff Designs. Now located in Royal Oak, MI, Murray subjected the car to its fourth and most detailed make-over. This included brand new chrome, all new glass, and a new interior and paint scheme to complete the traditional yet modern look. Charlie Vickerie sprayed the new Pfaff-designed graphics using Glasurit paint. Jeff Shea created art in motion by applying some tasty pin stripping. The overall effect is a long, low, and imposing land yacht exuding a style that is sweet and undeniable.

Open the vault like doors and you find a leather wrapped dash with a custom punched and flared purple insert and speedo cluster liberated from a 1960 Cadillac. A modified 1960 Cadillac steering wheel proudly sits atop an Ididit column. A center console features the bullet housing with integrated gauges from Classic Instruments. Pat Russell at P.J.’s Trim Shop in Hemlock, MI. stitched together the leather hides to match the designer’s vision while encompassing the MTX sound system. A whole host of good friends, including Tom Gardner, Steve Langdon, Cliff McKillop, and Ed Pashukewich spent many sleepless nights bringing this incredible '56 Caddy to life.

To help achieve the right stance, the car was dropped to the ground using Air Ride Technologies Shock Waves. Another distinctive feature is the two different styles of rims and rubber. One side features BF Goodrich wide whites with 15” Astro Supremes, while the other sports Goodyear F1’s around a custom designed 18” Billet Specialties wheel. The two looks are very polarizing while attracting compliments from two different crowds. The car rides and drives like a dream which is important to Pfaff since he has logged over 85,000 miles himself behind the wheel. To say he enjoys driving this car is an understatement.

At the rear of this tour de force lies the reason for the car’s name: Just take a look at the exhaust and you will see that Murray is serious about his flames. 2010 Honda Insight

Honda and Toyota pioneered the hybrid-powertrain business in the U.S. market, with the Insight two-seater and the original Prius sedan. Both debuted at the turn of the 21st century. Honda halted production of the original Insight after the 2006 model year, and Toyota's midsize Prius is now entering its third generation as a 2010 model.

Honda also continues to offer the Civic Hybrid compact sedan (with a trunk).Billed as the "affordable" hybrid, the Insight hybrid hatchback aims to attract a new breed of battery/gas buyer. In mid-2008, as gasoline prices skyrocketed, hybrids suddenly became highly prized—and highly priced. As gas prices eased back down, the bloom slid rapidly off the hybrid rose, and sales began to tumble.

Honda advises that some design elements were carried over from the original Insight hybrid, particularly in the side profile, while the front-end relates to the company's FCX Clarity fuel-cell vehicle. Built on a 100.4-inch wheelbase, the Insight weighs 2,723 pounds. Five occupants fit inside, along with 15.9 cubic feet of cargo. Fold-down 60/40-split rear seats provide a configurable seating and cargo area.

In the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system, Honda's 1.3-liter i-VTEC (intelligent variable valve timing) four-cylinder gasoline engine produces 98 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. Powered by nickel-metal-hydride batteries that deliver 100.8 volts, the electric motor/generator is rated at 13 horsepower and 10 kilowatts. Every Insight has a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and rolls on 15-inch tires. EX models have paddle shifters at the steering wheel.

While accelerating and in certain cruising situations, the electric motor adds power to the gas engine's output. To boost mileage, the IMA system also provides cylinder deactivation while decelerating, and an idle-stop feature when the car is stationary. An Ecological Drive Assist System, dubbed Eco Assist, can optimize vehicle operation in accord with driving conditions, and also provide feedback related to the individual driver's style. Pushing the dashboard ECON button enhances throttle control, CVT operation, idle-stop duration, and air-conditioner operation–all to extract the most distance from every drop of fuel.

2009 Suzuki SX4

The Suzuki SX4 offers a lot of compact car for the money. The SX4 lineup features a four-door sedan and a four-door hatchback. All Suzuki SX4 models are powered by a 143-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available on the hatchback.

The Sport sedan features a sport-tuned suspension and wider, lower-profile tires on alloy wheels. We found the Sport offers sharper steering and more nimble handling, though the ride may be stiff for some drivers. All Suzuki SX4 models offer pleasant cabins with controls that are easy to use and interior materials appropriate for the price. The front seats are spacious. The rear seat in the hatchback is roomy. The back seat in the sedan is cramped for tall riders, but it has a large trunk. All models are keenly priced, making them worthy candidates for shoppers looking for small cars that are more than just basic transportation.

The 2009 Suzuki SX4 lineup comes in sedan and Crossover hatchback versions, each with a 143-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is available for the hatchback. The SX4 sedan ($13,299) comes with cloth upholstery, tilt steering wheel, anti-lock brakes, P195/65R15 tires on steel wheels, and a five-speed manual transmission. The LE ($14,689) adds air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The LE is also available with a four-speed automatic ($15,789). The Sport ($15,739) features a sport-tuned suspension with P205/50R17 all-season tires on 17-inch alloy wheels; it's available with the automatic ($16,839).

Audi A4 TDI ecological version

Audi has introduced a new version of the A4, called the 2.0 litre TDI, after having previously presented it as a concept car. The letter “e”, when appearing in the name, denotes the economic version of this new model, with an average fuel consumption of just 4.6 litres/100 km, and CO2 emissions of 119 g/km.

Audi A4 TDI-1Audi A4 TDI-2These are impressive figures compared to the 2.0 Audi A4 TDI 143 hp, with similar performance, which has fuel consumption of 5.5 litres per 100 km. The new model has start-stop system, six speed manual gear change and onboard computer indicating the optimum moment for gear change. With a lowered based and new front air intakes, aerodynamics have been improved.

Tyres are 16 inches measuring 205/60, and the engine with its 136 hp, reaches a top speed of 215 km, with 9.5 seconds to hit 100 km/hr. The new Audi A4 will be available from July in sedan and avant versions, at a price of about 30,800 euros.

For this project, the redesigned twin supercharger system of the world record car for the fast-revving V10 was used. Compared to the standard system, both belt-driven ASA T1-313 superchargers, each providing charge air for one cylinder bank, were replaced by larger ASA T1-316 models. They have the capacity to increase the volume of charge air by up to 25 percent but only a fraction of that was utilized in this engine. The air volume these chargers are capable of would theoretically be sufficient for a rated power output in excess of 900 hp.

The inner workings of the ten-cylinder four-valve engine are optimized with forged high-performance pistons from Mahle that reduce compression. They have been precisely matched for weight and are much stronger than their production counterparts. The production piston rods and pins also had to make way for special components that can handle the much higher forces.

Further optimized mapping of the engine electronics also contributes to the increased power output of 750 hp / 552 kW, available between 7,500 and 8,000 rpm. The engine delivers its peak torque of 800 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS sets new performance records not just for top speed with more than 370 km/h. With sprint times of less than 4.4 seconds from rest to 100 km/h, 9.6 seconds to 200 km/h and 26 seconds to 300 km/h the nearly two-ton coupe is at the head of the pack in these categories as well.

The G-POWER M6 HURRICANE CS can be ordered as a complete car starting at 360.000 Euros.

Renault Megan's new engines

Renault is set to launch its latest generation 1.4 litre TCE and 2.0 litre Dci engines, appearing on the Renault Megane range. The former has 130 hp and the latter 160hp, with both now on the market only shortly after the recent 1.6 litre Dci at 130 hp was announced. The additions will widen the Renault engine offering, with the 1.4 TCE having an impressive torque of 190Nm and fuel consumption at 6.5 litres per 100 km. CO2 emissions are 153 g/km.

Renault MeganThe 2.0 litre Dci is available in two versions: a 160 hp, 380Nm unit with manual transmission, and a 150 hp, 360Nm with automatic transmission. The more powerful version has average consumption of 5.9 litres/100km and 155 g/km of CO2 emissions. The automatic has 6.8 l/100km of fuel consumption and 180 g/km of CO2 emissions. All Renault engines should also soon be available on the Scenic model.

2025 Sunbeam Tiger LSR

For the centennial of the original 1925 Sunbeam Tiger land speed record car, British design student Ryan Skelley has mocked up this sweet ride. We’re huge fans of the lines, notable wheel-separation and no-windshield look. Not to mention, this version is 100% electric. While the original 1925 LSR had a V12 and hit 145mph, Skelley hypothesizes that the new concept would use lithium titanate batteries to power an electric motor and to hit 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and reach a top end speed of 160 mph.

2009 Renault Clio Renaultsport 200

Renault invited Carmagazine to drive the new 200 Cup at Portugal’s Braga circuit.Actually, the revisions are more extensive than that. Sure, there’s still a 2.0-litre 16-valve screamer under the hood with just shy of 200bhp (the 200 refers to the metric ps measurement). But there’s also around 20% more torque on tap from low revs, while first, second and third gears are shorter. So where the 197 could feel slightly lethargic, the 200 positively bounds off the line. Better still, both mpg and C02 emissions are marginally improved too. You’re getting ahead of yourself with all this Cup talk. What about the standard 200?

This time there’s even more differentiation between the Cup and the 200. Yes, the Cup is still pared back (lower quality dash plastics, plus no air-con, keycard, reach-adjustable steering column, electric mirrors etc), but its chassis is 15% stiffer than its predecessor’s, where the 200’s is 15% softer, giving the two cars more distinct personalities. But don’t worry, you can still spec the Cup chassis on the more luxurious 200 for £400.

2009 Piecha Design Mercedes-Benz SL Avalange RS

(from Piecha Design Press Release) Piecha Design combines the best of two worlds. With the SL-Roadster (R230), the Mercedes specialist from Rottweil in Baden Wuerttemberg, Germany brings the classic four-eyed face with the double headlights and the fresh design of the 2008 facelift together. Thereby, the Avalange RS with an own character originates. At the Tuning World Bodensee in Friedrichshafen, the new model celebrates its world premiere at the exhibition booth of Eurotuner’s Best (hall B3, stand 204).

Piecha Design places its one-lamella grill between the double headlights which is typical for the SL facelift since 2008. But the refiner places the grill significantly flatter. The automobile front with the enlarged Mercedes bonnet star gives the car a much more dynamic look. The entirely re-engineered front skirt (from 1,985 euros including VAT) with the integrated one-lamella grill and bonnet star insert is made of elastomer-modified fibre glass composite material in one piece. The aerodynamics kit can be optionally ordered for automobiles with or without parking assistant system PARKTRONIC.

The determined design line by Piecha Design does not only show at the new front skirt, but also at the chromed bonnet fins (98 euros) and Mercedes-Benz SL-R side fins which are extended right to the doors (476 euros). This characteristic style is continued in a striking way with side skirts (1,100 euros) with a reverse air inlet pointing towards the rear. The winding design of the skirts sustainably affects the wedged shape of the side view and gives the Avalange RS additional dynamics.

The rear skirt can be optionally ordered with or without PARKTRONIC (from 1,390 euros) and the continuously embedded grid which spreads over the entire width of the automobile, the design is further enhanced. Piecha design offers the separately inserted diffuser which is limited by the four pipe system of the sport rear muffler QUADRO (1,475 euros) as well as the additional middle front lip optionally in carbon fibre. Alternatively, QUADRO 4-pipe tail ends (398 euros) are also available for welding them to the serial mufflers.

Piecha Design confirms its sense for design vocabulary with further details. A discreet rear spoiler lip (from 275 euros) on the boot lid, optionally also in carbon fibre, gives the overall appearance a harmonious finish. The Mercedes manufacturer completely refrains from so-called fender corners at the spoilers and therefore creates an aerodynamics kit of one piece.

Except for the front skirt, all aerodynamics components also fit for the facelift of the Mercedes SL from 04/2008 including the AMG models SL 63 and SL 65 whose styling is especially enhanced by the Avalange RS look.

2009 Saab 9-5 spied

Saab's new 9-5 continues testing – as the Swedish car maker continues to fight for its survival. These latest spy photos, taken yesterday at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, are proof that Saab does finally have the new product for which its dealers are clamouring.

2009 Saab 9-5 -12009 Saab 9-5 -2Pending the sale of Saab, the new 9-5 is due to be shown this autumn at the September 2009 Frankfurt motor show, ahead of a showroom launch in winter 2009-10. It's a step change for Saab's range-topper; after a decade of stagnation in the exec sector, the 9-5 is finally brought kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Our latest spy photos confirm a more low-slung style, with an especially noticeable fastback rear screen (a touring estate will also be offered later in 2010).

GM might have turned its back on Saab 9-5, but this car was engineered under its watch – so the global Epsilon II architecture underpins the new 9-5. That means a similar engineering set-up to the Vauxhall Insignia, with the option of front- or four-wheel drive and the likelihood of turbocharged Aero models. Downsized, four-cylinder turbo engines form the backbone of the engine line-up and – this is cuddly, enviro-conscious Saab, don't forget – eco-friendly E85 biofuels will be available.
